Central Coast 7’s is an international Rugby Sevens tournament which takes place every October. The 3 day event attracted teams from across the globe for the men’s & women’s tournament. And the school boys’ tournament ran for its second year providing NSW boys an opportunity to play in a high level framework.
Thuy headed up the Physiotherapy crew which included PhysioWISE colleagues Wilson and James along with student Louie Daher. Also helping out were a couple of colleagues from the Central Coast who Thuy has worked with before.
International clubs gathered at the event from countries such as Fiji, Japan, Samoa, New Zealand and of course Australia. There was plenty of activity on and off the field and the language barrier with some players didn’t hinder the effectiveness of the Physiotherapists.
As to be expected, many different injuries came through the tent, ankle sprains, shoulder injuries, and a corked thigh to name a few. The players received first class treatment including pain free manual techniques, soft tissue releases, Kinesio Taping and of course education for ongoing management.
The day was full of energy with obvious enjoyment plastered on the face of the players and Physios. And what would an international competition be without half time dance performances and delicious Fijian food?!
Congratulations go to the Northern Suburbs Rugby Club winners of the Men’s division earning the top spot with a 38-24 win over the Fijian side “Red Rock”. Queensland team, “Tribe” dominated the Women’s competition with a 21-7 win over team Sunnybank in the final. Tribe led with an impressive 14-0 in the first half until Sunnybank made a comeback before the break for a 14-7 score. Sunnybank, former champions in 2012, pressured through most of the second half dominating possession of the ball but team Tribe scored a runaway try with three minutes on the buzzer. Nail biting stuff!
PhysioWISE Practice Manager Clint Bridges was on hand to present Tribe with their winners trophy and cheque.
The 2013 event was a great success for organisers, players and Physios alike. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this top level tournament together!
